Dobrogniewa, the daughter of the Duke of Świdnica, however, rejected their advances. Her heart always belonged to Prince Mieszko. Among the unfortunate ones she turned away was the Spirit of the Mountains. His determination to win his beloved was much greater than that of the other suitors. Smitten, he kidnapped her to his mountain fortress.
The mountain spirit's chosen one was not pleased and increasingly complained about boredom and lack of company. The lovestruck man decided to do everything to make his chosen one happy. He gifted her a kilogram of turnips and a magic wand. From then on, with a single touch of the magic wand, the princess could transform vegetables into anyone she wished. She spent time playing with friends and momentarily forgot about being separated from Mieszko. However, the kilogram of turnips quickly wilted, and the girl was once again left alone in the empty castle.
So, the Mountain Spirit of the Karkonosze surrounded all the surrounding fields with turnips. The turnips grew to the horizon and occupied every free space in the garden. He picked them for his chosen one, and she once again transformed the vegetables into friends. One day, the girl longed for her Mieszko. She decided to escape from the Mountain Spirit of the Karkonosze once and for all. The cunning girl asked him to count all the growing turnips.
This took a very long time. The Mountain Spirit made mistakes and had to start counting from the beginning. During this time, the princess slipped away and fled to the valley to her beloved Mieszko.
